How to make Hallaca

  1. Chop 1 onion, 1 bell pepper, and mince 3 garlic cloves, setting them aside for cooking.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic for about 5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add 300 g of beef, 300 g of pork, and 300 g of chicken to the skillet, cooking and stirring occasionally until browned, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Stir in 100 g of olives, 50 g of capers, 2 teaspoons of cumin, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper; let simmer for 10 minutes until everything is heated through.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine 500 g of corn flour with 400 mL of water, mixing until a smooth dough forms without lumps.
  6. Prepare banana leaves by cutting them into large rectangles for wrapping the hallacas.
  7. Place a portion of dough on a banana leaf, flatten it slightly, add a scoop of meat filling, and fold the leaf to wrap securely.
  8. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then carefully place the wrapped hallacas into the water and boil for 1 hour until fully cooked.
  9. Using tongs, remove the hallacas from the pot and let them drain briefly.
  10. Serve hot on a plate and enjoy the flavors of this traditional dish.
