How to make Kalduny

  1. Boil 500 g of potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Drain the potatoes and mash them, then let cool for 10 minutes in a bowl.
  3. Chop 1 onion and sauté in 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat until golden, about 5 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix 300 g of ground beef, cooked onion, 1 tsp salt, and 1/0.5 tsp pepper until well combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine 300 g of flour, mashed potatoes, and 1 egg to create a dough.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into 8 cm circles.
  7. Place a spoonful of meat mixture in the center of each circle, and fold over to seal.
  8. Boil the dumplings in salted water until they float, which takes about 5-7 minutes.
  9. Serve hot with melted butter drizzled over the top.
