- 500 ml oil for frying
How to make Bitterballen
- Melt 50 g of butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until fully liquid.
- Finely chop 1 onion and sauté in the melted butter for about 5 minutes until it turns translucent.
- Add 250 g of ground beef to the saucepan, cooking for about 8 minutes until browned and crumbly, stirring often.
- Stir in 100 g of flour, mixing thoroughly until no dry flour remains in the pan.
- Gradually pour in 500 ml of beef broth while stirring constantly for about 5 minutes, until the mixture thickens.

- Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool for at least 30 minutes before shaping.
- Shape the cooled mixture into small balls, roughly the size of golf balls, ensuring they hold together.
- Beat 1 egg in a bowl. Roll each ball in the egg, then coat in 100 g of breadcrumbs until evenly covered.
