How to make Salteñas

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 500 g of all-purpose flour, 100 g of butter, and 200 ml of water.
  2. Knead the mixture until a smooth dough forms, about 5 minutes. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat for about 1 minute.
  4. Cook 300 g of ground beef with 1 chopped onion, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of pepper for about 10 minutes until browned.
  5. Boil 200 g of potatoes in salted water for about 10-15 minutes until tender, then drain and mash them.
  6. In a bowl, mix the mashed potatoes with 100 g of peas and the cooked beef mixture until combined.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough and cut into circles, about 10 cm in diameter.
  8. Place some filling in the center of each circle and fold over to create half-moons, pinching the edges to seal.
  9. Preheat the oven to 200°C and place the salteñas on a baking tray.
  10. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving.
