How to make Cepelinai

  1. Boil 1 kg of potatoes in salted water for 30 minutes until soft. Drain and mash until smooth.
  2. Chop 1 onion finely and set aside. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  3. Sauté the chopped onion in the skillet until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the smooth mashed potatoes, 400 g of ground meat, the sautéed onion, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper.
  5. Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon until well combined and uniform in texture.
  6. With wet hands, form the mixture into oval dumplings about 10 cm long and flatten slightly.
  7. Place a small piece of smoked bacon in the center of each dumpling before sealing the edges tightly.
  8. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil and carefully drop in the formed dumplings.
  9. Boil the dumplings for 10-15 minutes until they float to the surface, indicating they are cooked.
  10. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve hot, garnished with 200 g of sour cream.
