Ingredients
- 300 g basmati rice
- 500 g chicken
- 1 onion
- 3 garlic
- 1 tbsp ginger
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods
- 5 cloves
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- 600 ml water
- 1 tsp salt
How to make Pilau
- Chop 1 onion, mince 3 garlic cloves, and grate 20 g of ginger as your preparation steps before cooking.
- In a large pot, heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat, around 180°C (350°F) until shimmering.
- Sauté the chopped onion until golden, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 cardamom pods, and 5 whole cloves; sauté for 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add 500 g of chicken pieces to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in 300 g of basmati rice into the pot, ensuring each grain is coated with the spice mixture for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in 600 ml of water along with 10 g of salt, bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low.
- Simmer for 20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed, then remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before serving.
