How to make Fihunu mas

  1. Clean and fillet the mackerel, then set the fillets aside on a plate.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder.
  3. Finely chop 1 green chili and add to the lime mixture in the bowl, stirring well.
  4. Marinate the mackerel fillets in this mixture for 15 minutes, turning occasionally to coat evenly.
  5. In a pan over medium heat, gently heat 200 ml of coconut milk.
  6. Add 1 sliced onion and a handful of curry leaves to the coconut milk, stirring occasionally.

  8. Cook for about 10 minutes until the fish is tender and opaque, with the edges slightly bubbling.
  9. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
