Ingredients
- 400 g rechta noodles
- 800 g chicken
- 2 onions
- 200 g chickpeas
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1500 ml water
How to make Rechta
- Chop 1 onion and prepare 1 kg of chicken pieces. Measure 200 g of chickpeas and 250 g of rechta noodles for the dish.
- In a large pot, heat 60 ml of olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pot, browning them on all sides for about 8-10 minutes.
- Season the chicken with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
- Pour in 1 liter of water and add the chickpeas; bring to a gentle simmer over low heat.
- Cover the pot and simmer until the chicken is fully cooked, around 30 minutes.
- Remove the chicken from the pot and shred it using two forks.
- Return the shredded chicken to the pot along with 400 g of rechta noodles.
- Cook the noodles for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are tender.
- Serve hot, garnished with the shredded chicken and a handful of chickpeas for a hearty meal.
